A Delightful Day In & Around Dennis, Mass

Back on the Cape, our neighbors tipped us off about the Cuffy’s of Cape Cod clearance sale. If you already love Cuffy’s at full price and in full season, you’ll love it even more during their clearance events. These sales aren’t advertised—the locals just seem to know when they’re running. Even the employees can’t say when they’ll end if you ask. You simply need to take your chances and go. Or call ahead to confirm.

We thought we’d found a good sale there at the end of August, until we went earlier this week. Big rolling laundry bins lined the walkway, filled with everything from baby clothes to adult sweats, sorted and categorized. Most items were marked at just $3 a piece. We snagged a few t-shirts and sweats before heading inside, where much of the merchandise was marked 50% off.

With the weather cooling down as fall approaches, it’s the perfect time to stock up on cozy essentials. We each came away satisfied with shirts, sweats, and shorts. Go early, bring money, and enjoy!

Having worked up an appetite, our next stop was lunch. I’ve seen countless rave reviews for Captain Parker’s Pub in West Yarmouth, a short, easy drive from West Dennis, so off we went.

Captain Parker’s Pub: A Cape Cod Institution

Tucked away in West Yarmouth, Massachusetts, Captain Parker’s Pub has been serving up New England hospitality and hearty fare for decades. This beloved establishment has earned its place as a true Cape Cod institution, drawing both locals and visitors who crave authentic New England dining in a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

A Tradition of Excellence
Captain Parker’s isn’t just another restaurant—it’s a destination. The moment you step through the doors, you’re greeted by the kind of comfortable, nautical-themed ambiance that perfectly captures the spirit of Cape Cod. Dark wood, maritime memorabilia, and a cozy pub atmosphere make it feel like a place where stories are shared and memories are made.

The Famous Clam Chowder
If there’s one thing Captain Parker’s is renowned for, it’s their New England clam chowder. This isn’t just good chowder—it’s award-winning chowder that has earned recognition in regional and national competitions. Rich, creamy, and loaded with tender clams and chunks of potato, it’s the kind of chowder that sets the standard by which all others are judged. Many visitors make the pilgrimage to Captain Parker’s specifically for a bowl of this legendary soup.

My date had another one of Captain Parker’s specialties, the Captain’s Poutine – crisp french fries topped with the Captain’s world-famous New England Clam Chowder and garnished with fried clam strips. Served as an appetizer, but he had enough to take home for lunch the next day.

Beyond the Chowder
While the chowder alone would be worth the visit, Captain Parker’s menu offers so much more. From fresh seafood caught in local waters to classic pub fare done right, the kitchen delivers consistently excellent food. Their seafood selections showcase the bounty of Cape Cod Bay, while their comfort food offerings satisfy those looking for something hearty after a day at the beach.

And their warm-buttered lobster rolls rival any other lobster rolls we’ve ever had on the Cape and beyond. Chock full of hearty lobster meat tossed in melted butter and spread on a New England Split-Top Brioche Roll. Their fries are worth mentioning as well. Unusually cut and flavorful, this order came with a fresh serving of cole slaw on the side.

A Local Favorite
What truly sets Captain Parker’s apart is its role in the community. This is a place where regulars are greeted by name, where families celebrate milestones, and where visitors become friends. The staff’s genuine warmth and attention to detail create an experience that goes beyond just a meal.

Whether you’re a Cape Cod regular or visiting for the first time, Captain Parker’s Pub in West Yarmouth is a must-visit destination that embodies the best of New England dining tradition.
