Tucked away on the picturesque Leidsegracht, Café George has established itself as one of Amsterdam’s most beloved dining destinations . This isn’t just another canal-side café—it’s a carefully curated experience that bridges continents, combining French brasserie elegance with New York bistro cool in the heart of the Dutch capital. It was highly recommended by our Hotel Concierge for our first night’s dinner in Amsterdam. An easy walk from the Hotel down the charming side streets of Amsterdam and we were delighted to step into this lovely inviting space for our first night’s dinner in this wonderful city.

An Instagram-Worthy Icon
As you step through Café George’s iconic entrance you will immediately understand why it’s become a favorite among influencers and photographers . The interior is a masterclass in timeless design: striking tile walls, a catwalk-like mosaic floor, and classic Thonet chairs create an atmosphere that feels both sophisticated and welcoming. The beautiful mosaic floor and long brown sofa along the wall evoke the ambiance of a traditional French brasserie, while maintaining a distinctly Amsterdam character.

A Menu That Travels
The culinary philosophy at Café George is delightfully transatlantic. More Than Just a Meal

The location on Leidsegracht places you in one of Amsterdam’s most beautiful neighborhoods, where monumental canal houses reflect in the water and bicycles lean casually against bridges. It’s the kind of setting that makes you slow down and savor the moment—which is exactly what a meal at Café George encourages.

The Verdict
Often imitated but never quite replicated, Café George has carved out its unique niche in Amsterdam’s competitive dining scene . It’s the rare restaurant that works equally well for a quick solo coffee, a romantic date, a family meal, or a celebration with friends. The service is attentive, the ambiance is effortlessly chic, and the food delivers on its Franco-American promise.
